Sorry guys but I'm the newcomer here. This year 2009 I will be coming to Milwaukee Con for the first time (woot! ^o.o^) And it will be my first time in an anime con since I couldn't go with my Blah blah. So anyways. I saw on the website that there was gonna be a character auction.

Anyways, you may choose to answer my questions or u can just share your memories of Character Auctions (anything funny?)

Questions: I saw that you can "win" and go on a "date" but I was just wondering what that's like.
2) Uhhh, I'm assuming that we are bidding on "people" dressed up as the characters?
3) and i'm assuming that there may be guys cross dressing? T_T'''' lolz XD
4) And how high do can auctions go? If you can share a memory please tell me which character too.

All of my responses are for what happened last year! I was a participant in the character auction. I was Gendo Ikari (碇・ゲンドウ) and was the second highest bid recipient. :)

Answers: You can indeed "win" and go on a "date" with someone. Last year this was just an obligation to show up to the dance with them, although I'm sure a smooth talker might be able to get a second date or even a relationship if he or she tried hard enough.
2) You are indeed bidding on people cosplaying characters. I don't understand why you put people in quotes. Perhaps cosplayers aren't really people. An excellent philosophical discussion that we shall save for another thread!
3) There was no crossplay at the character auction last year that I can remember, although I know there was crossplay at the cosplay contest.
4) Auctions go until the bidding stops. :) Last year the highest was $80? $100? One of those two.

Hope that helps.

Hey there guys, I'm the guy running the auction.

There is a slight crossplay this year. I'll let you guys guess as to what that means.

Wish I was there, I was willing to bid high again but my panel actually filled up half a ballroom and I couldn't cancel it :(
